Certified PV System

Certified quality for frameless photovoltaic system from Würth Solar--Frameless GeneCIS modules and intelligent mounting system from Schwäbisch Hall have IEC certification

Würth Solar, the leading innovator in the use of CIS technology for generating photovoltaic energy and a full-line provider of photovoltaic systems, has been awarded the IEC 61646 (International Electrotechnical Commission) certificate for its comprehensive frameless GeneCIS module system and Starfix I Frameless substructure, which was specially developed for the system. The Starfix I Frameless mounting system is the result of intensive development work as well as years of experience gained by leading CIS system provider Würth Solar. In the perfectly harmonised system, the GeneCIS modules are float-mounted. This prevents mechanical stress forming in the glass composite, which has a positive effect on the durability of the modules. The GeneCIS modules used are made in Germany.
The frameless photovoltaic system provides an economically attractive solution for deployment on Kalzip and trapezoidal sheet roofing or comparable roof finishes. Not having frames makes the PV systems particularly economic. While they are particularly suited for large-scale roofs on agricultural or industrial buildings, ground-mounted systems can also be constructed with frameless GeneCIS modules. Another advantage: Roofs with gentle slopes also have a high self-cleaning effect, since the completely flat module surface enables water to drain off easily.
The system meets the most demanding requirements in regard to wind and snow loads. Just like the framed GeneCIS modules, the frameless modules are executed using a glass-glass design, whereby the 4 mm cover glass in the frameless version is thicker than usual. This ensures the mechanical stability of the modules. This has been confirmed-- as has the performance of the entire system--by TÜV Rheinland, taking into consideration mechanical, electrical and environmentally related tests. The standard itself has been determined by the IEC, the international standards body.

First systems with frameless modules already in use

The first photovoltaic installations using the entire system comprising frameless GeneCIS modules and the Starfix I Frameless mounting system are already in operation. Johannes Nied GmbH, a timber pallet manufacturer from Ravenstein in Baden, Germany, has been operating a system comprising 1,254 frameless modules with an output of around 94 kWp since May 2010. "In constructing a new shed for storing IPPC-treated timber pallets, we already decided during the planning phase that we wanted to include a photovoltaic system and thus generate environmentally friendly electricity. This reflects the value placed on sustainability in our corporate philosophy. With Würth Solar we have found the right partner for an ecologically and, at the same time, economically sensible solution," said Hartmut Nied, Managing Director of the company. The Nied company is one of the largest timber packaging manufacturers in Baden-Württemberg. The company supplies around 8,000 pallets every day. The photovoltaic system was planned and installed by Chalupa Solartechnik from Bieringen/Schöntal, Hohenlohekreis, Germany--one of Würth Solars service partners.
Würth Solar offers comprehensive customer support for the newly certified system, ranging from advice and implementation to service packages. Certified service partners are responsible for installing the systems.
