Solar Frontier Becomes First To Obtain New Quality Assurance Certification from JET

From module design and production to consumer support

TOKYO, August 16, 2012 – Solar Frontier announced today that it has become the first PV manufacturer to obtain the ¡°JETPVm Certification (Trust Assurance) (JIS Q 8901)¡± from Japan Electrical Safety & Environment Technology Laboratories (JET), a Japanese registered certifier of electrical products and other goods. Compared to its predecessor, the new JETPVm Certification verifies the reliability of a manufacturer¡¯s PV modules as well as the organization¡¯s customer-support system. As the first company to receive this certification, Solar Frontier continues to demonstrate the high quality of its CIS thin-film solutions and the company¡¯s commitment to long-term customer support.

The new JETPVm Certification (Trust Assurance) was created in June to coincide with the launch of Japan¡¯s feed-in tariff program. Based on the Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS) for quality assurance in photovoltaic power generating systems,  JET only certifies PV modules after examining and approving the quality of the product design, its production process, and the PV manufacturer¡¯s ability to provide long-term product warranty and customer support. Solar Frontier applied for certification for its CIS thin-film modules in July and officially received the JETPVm Certification on August 9.

In addition to the dependability of its CIS modules, which are tested beyond global industry standards at Solar Frontier¡¯s Atsugi Research Center, its nationwide training and qualification system are a key component of its quality management program. Franchised dealers, distributors and installation contractors who enter this program are eligible for training in everything from installation to after-sales services. To date, Solar Frontier has trained and certified 18,000 personnel across Japan.

Solar Frontier supplies its proprietary CIS modules in Japan and worldwide for residential rooftop installations, office complex installations, while also offering project development services to help its customers accelerate the process of getting industrial and utility-scale projects permitted, constructed, and grid-connected.

About JETPVm Certification

JETPVm Certification (JIS Q 8901) is a certification program that is designed to increase consumer confidence in photovoltaic power generation systems by requiring product manufacturers to demonstrate long-term reliability of its PV modules from both a design and production standpoint, in addition to its long-term product warranty systems. The objective is to promote the widespread use of solar cell modules and to protect users. The certification program began in June 2012 and is operated by the Japan Electrical Safety & Environment Technology Laboratories (JET).

Product manufacturers who have received certification of compliance to the performance and safety testing standards set forth by JET (IEC 61215, 61646, 61730-1&2) can ship their certified products with the JETPVm certification label attached. The JETPVm Certification label symbolizes an image that promotes widespread use of photovoltaic power generation equipment, which is a clean source of natural energy that does not produce carbon dioxide when generating electricity.
